Local MP Jane Hunt visited the School Games National Finals at Loughborough University this evening. It is an inclusive event involving the most talented school-age athletes from across the UK in ten sports.
The Games are supported by Sport England Lottery funding and backed by all the Home Country Sports Councils. These Finals, and the national programme of intra and inter school competition in England, are a direct legacy of London winning the right to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. Ten years on there is much to celebrate – from the amazing TeamGB athletes who emerged from this event such as Dina Asher-Smith and Ellie Simmonds to the generation of young sports volunteers who help deliver the whole programme of competition from grassroots to the National Finals.
