Jane Hunt MP was the guest of honour at this year’s awards ceremony for their flagship UK community programme 3M Young Innovators Challenge this evening. The event was held at 3M's Loughborough office at Charnwood Campus.
3M Young Innovators Challenge is a school competition comprising fun and creative science and engineering challenges for primary age students, targeted at schools in Leicestershire and South Nottinghamshire, local to the 3M Loughborough office.
Students have the chance to win funding for new science equipment for their school, individual prizes and a British Science Association CREST Award funded by 3M.
This year’s programme was opened to schools in January 2022, with entries judged by academic partners and 3M STEM Ambassadors back in may. The evening included a display of the students’ work and awards ceremony. As the guest of honour, Jane handed over certificates and prizes, and gave an address on the importance of STEM subjects.
One of the awards was for the Techmasters team from Rendell Primary School in Loughborough who incorporated a lot of STEM learning to slow down their creative marble run based on a forest theme and win the 3M Young Innovators Slo-Mo Marble Challenge for Loughborough as well as science equipment for their school.
