Throughout my time as the Member of Parliament for Loughborough, listening to and supporting constituents with local concerns has been at the forefront of my agenda. So, it was great to join the East Midlands Housing Group for a ‘Ward Walk’ on the 7th of October at Ladybird Close. Despite the event being cut short by the weather, I was pleased to speak to residents about their issues and what can be done to help solve them. I am very much looking forward to continuing with this in the future. As ever, if you have an issue which you would like to raise with me, you can contact me via post, email or telephone.
Also in October I hosted another Business Breakfast, held at the Radmoor Centre, Loughborough College, which enabled the local business community to come together to meet and hear from guest speakers. We were fortunate to have Jo Maher who is the Principle and CEO of Loughborough College and Liz Barclay who is the Small Business Commissioner on behalf of the government.
I also joined staff at the Great Central Railway, celebrating their success in being awarded £280,000 of funding from the Loughborough Town Deal. Town Deals are a government initiative which aims to regenerate town centres, boost businesses, and improve local infrastructure and connectivity. There were 101 places across the UK which were invited to bid for funding and Loughborough was one of those who were successful. In total, the government has granted £16.9 million to the Loughborough Town Deal and the portion of that allocated to the Great Central Railway will be used to help fund rail sheds and an education centre. The Great Central Railway attracts visitors from across the UK to see Europe’s only double track heritage railway which we are lucky to have in Loughborough!
On Saturday 3rd December, I along with Love Loughborough, Charnwood Borough Council and Loughborough Chamber of Trade will be holding the Best Dressed Shop Window Competition for Loughborough again. This has been very successful in previous years and the windows dressed up for Christmas are a wonderful sight to see. Why not come to Loughborough and take a look around the town and judge for yourself.
Finally, if I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
